- Hometown: San Pedro
Greg is from San Pedro, California and spent a lot of time growing up in his parents’ sail loft in Cabrillo Marina. He took to competitive sailing naturally at a very young age. As a child, Greg worked hard to reach the top of the Optimist class learning many skills and processes that lead to success in one design racing. Developing a deep understanding of one design racing at such a young age has proven extremely valuable. As he grew up Greg progressed through many different classes refining his skillset and consistently placing well in a variety of events. While attending CSUCI Greg raced in the University circuit and collected many event wins. After college Greg regularly raced as a tactician in the Farr 40 fleet always placing well with a young group of friends.
Greg has seen a lot of success as a sailor but considers coaching to be his greatest sailing ability. At 27 years old Greg has been coaching professionally for over a decade. He has coached many local one design sailors to the top of their respective fleets and developed a reliable consistent practice formula that will help his customers to do the same. 3 years ago Greg moved to New Zealand and took a position coaching the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron’s Training Programs. Being part of the team that coached RNZYS sailors on to success at the highest level was an invaluable learning experience. Greg’s coaching experience has helped him to develop into an effective communicator who can improve a team’s performance from any position.
Greg is very excited to take a new professional direction and is confident that his experience will lead to a natural fit developing and producing the world’s fastest one design sails as part of the Ullman Sails team.
