J/70 Racing Guide
J/70 Tuning Guide Imperial Version
J/70 Tuning Guide Metric Version
Our team is tuned into the peculiarities of the Santa Monica Bay race course. We are applying all our design knowledge and resources, combined with testing on the 2020 Worlds venue waters, to create the best product to date. Stay tuned, expect small but significant changes as we develop the fastest sails available for MDR 2020.
The MDR 2020 Main has seen almost no design changes from the proven 2016 Worlds winning design. The construction and finishing however has been changed significantly. We have made a much lighter and more responsive sail that is still plenty strong and still fast in the higher wind range. The top battens have changed, now being built into the sail instead of on one side. The result is perfectly symmetrical batten popping and shape.
The fastest Marina Del Rey all purpose jib on the market, designed for and tested specifically at MdR venue.
Small changes to our AP spinnaker have resulted in a sail that outperforms the competition in the high traffic areas of the downwind, allowing you to stay powered up at a lower angle until you can pick the perfect moment to gybe into fresh breeze. Everyone is fast in clear air, but this kite will have you picking off boats while others around you drop multiple places at once. Designed for average wind disturbed by the big fleet behind you, we’ve made the most powerful, windward rotating, drag you straight downwind to the mark spinnaker available. It might be the last kite to plane, but it will be the first kite to get you out of the most challenging crowded MDR race course scenarios.

The Ullman Sails J/70 mainsail uses a crosscut panel layout to improve the sails ability to twist, ultimately making the sail easier to adjust and trim according to the conditions. This has proven successful in many of our one design development programs, resulting in multiple Melges 24 Worlds titles before the more recent J 70 World Championship win.
The fastest Marina Del Rey all purpose jib on the market, designed for and tested specifically at MdR venue. Clew blocks and everything else included.
The generation before the MDR Line jib, the original “custom” clew jib it makes the sail easy to use and fast!
The J1V2 jib is perfect for light and moderate breezes. Great for Southern California Sailing as the higher clews allows for in-hauling for better pointing and speed.
The J2SF Race Jib is designed for more moderate and heavy air conditions. With a lower clew and less foot-round than the J1V2, this sail has a sweet spot in anything over twelve knots. The sail also is great in light air and flat water. This sail, specially designed for the 2016 J70 Worlds comes in two different cloths: Pro-radial, and Firm Finish Square Dacron. This sail was used by the top Corinthian boat at the 2016 J70 World Championships.

Our newest design, this is the Spinnaker of choice. Designed with a fourth level of panels, the sail exhibits greater stability and shape-holding traits than the competition. This performance design has been proven to get you planning in lower wind-speeds
The Ullman Sails J/70 spinnaker is designed with a powerful flying shape that is easy to trim and performs across all wind angles. This is the spinnaker of choice for flat water venues.
