Mission Bay Invitational Recap

Mission Bay Yacht Club held their annual Lido 14 invitational regatta over Halloween weekend.  It was a great opportunity for the fleet to get back out on the water for a solid regatta after a long break. 17 boats showed up to the starting line for 8 races over the weekend.  At the end of the first day Mark Ryan was leading the pack, 1 point ahead of Bruce Golison who was one point ahead of USNB’s One Design Coordinator Greg Dair.  The three teams had a tight day of racing between them but unfortunately Mark Ryan got stuck with a job that saw him miss the showdown on Sunday, even after we were bugging him to quit his Sunday job all week.

We thought Bruce Golison had won the event after taking the lead in race 7 but the RC ran an unexpected race 8.  The Ullman Loft Team was able to swing things their way in the final race to take the event win.

The venue made for a terrific weekend.  The course through Mission Bay made for some very interesting and tactical racing and the whole fleet kept the racing close, competitive and exciting throughout.  This is a perfect venue for Lido racing and we’re stoked to see the 2021 Nationals scheduled to be held here.  Aside from the racing Mission Bay is a great place to hang out.  The Ullman team was lucky enough to show up a day early to test some of our kitefoiling gear, sharing the bay with other foiling kites, moths and A Cats.  This is a great place to paddleboard, hang at the beach and vacation.  The offwater entertainment coupled with a perfect enjoyable venue sets the stage for a fun and memorable Nationals next year.  We hope to see things turn positive for a record turnout.
